In March, I found this great-looking juniper only 15 minutes from my house. Although I walked through snow patches to get here and my paint rag froze beside me, the winter air in this sunny spot was qite comfortable in my down jacket, gloves, and stocking cap. I treasure these gnarly trees and their ability to survive, with roots winding through the cracks in the rocks of the escarpment until they eventually find the earth.
